Hockey Operations Committee

The Hockey Operations Committee has a total of 11 Director roles. This Committee is chaired by: VP Operations, WBHL –  JodyAnn McSkimming.

The available positions for the upcoming season are: U7 (Initiation), U9 (Novice), U13 (Peewee) and U18 (Midget). 

*Note: The following directors will return to their role this coming season. 

  • U11 (Atom) – Kathy Locken
  • U15 (Bantam) – Kailee Kopetski
  • U11 to U18 (Atom to Midget) WBHL Financial Reporting – Lynne Tomlinson
  • Director of Managers – Barb Power

Division Directors: Estimated time per month is 40-60 hours with much more time required during evaluations and season start up, Minor Hockey Week and Playoffs and include the following tasks:

  • Accountable for all communications to Division i.e. website, email, and Facebook pages.
  • Accountable for Division Stats/Standings (U11 (Atom), U13 (Peewee), U15 (Bantam), U18 (Midget).
  • Review and assign ice allocations to teams each month and double check that all teams are getting appropriate ice, that games are rotating evenly and working with the ice allocator to correct any issues.
  • Facilitate the evaluation process as set out by the VP Operations and tier players based on the results of the evaluations.
  • Work with VP of Operations and the Coach Development Director to secure head coaches for division.
  • Work with coaches to secure and assist managers for each team in your division.
  • Organize balanced teams.
  • Facilitate team, coach or player discipline conversations.
  • Facilitate division development programs.
  • Facilitate coach development.
  • Facilitate Minor Hockey Week directions as per MHW committee.
  • Liaise with tournament directors of outside leagues to help secure tournaments and encourage/enable all house league teams that wish to travel the ability to do so.
  • Facilitate playoffs.
  • Participate in incident investigations when called on by the League Governor.

Director of WBHL Financial Reporting (U7-U9): Estimated time commitment is 40 – 50 hours per season.

This role will create a process and be responsible for providing a check and balance on all WBHL U7 and U9 (Initiation and Novice) team budgets, sponsorships & fundraising initiatives. They will ensure all that financial directives are being followed, approve all fundraising and ensuring all raffles are closed correctly

  • Responsible for reviewing all budgets and confirming alignment against financial directive.
  • Responsible for mid-year checks and audits of budgets.
  • Responsible for year end close out of budgets.
  • Updating appropriate Administrative records and files for each team. 

Director of Equipment: Estimated time commitment is 40 – 50 hours per season.

This role will create a process and work in partnership with the hockey operations manager to deliver:

  • Jersey handout to start season.
  • Refreshing coach lockers with appropriate gear and coaching tools.
  • Safety checks and repair of goalie equipment for U9.
  • Distribution of elite gear purchased through FMMHA

Special Events Committee

The Special Events Committee has a total of 6 roles. This Committee is chaired by: VP Operations, WBHL –  JodyAnn McSkimming 

The available positions for the upcoming season are: Director of Special Events, Chair of Special Events Volunteers, Chair of Oilsands Classic U7 (Initiation), Chair of Oilsands Classic U9 (Novice), Chair of Oilsands Classic U13 (Peewee) and Chair of Oilsands Classic U15.

*Note: The following Chairs will return to their role this coming season. 

  • Chair, Minor Hockey week – Ray Poitras
  • Chair of Oilsands Classic U11 (Atom) – Natalie Bourque
  • Special events Treasurer – Paula Bolt

Director of Special Events: Estimated time commitment is 60-100 over the course of the season with the majority of these hours in the weeks of the events.

  • Oversee the process of all special events.
  • Support the Chair in the building event committee.
  • Promote and work to ensure agreements are met on all sponsorships.
  • Ensure all budgets are set up and completed after each even.
  • In partnership with the chair,  provide a report back on each event to the executive board.

Chair of Special Events Volunteers: Estimated time commitment is 60-100 over the course of the season with the majority of these hours in the weeks of the events.

  • Work with the Chair of each event to design all volunteer shifts.
  • Accountability to create sign ups and check in processes at each event.
  • Coordinate any logistics on each event to ensure enough volunteers.
  • Track Volunteer hours and update volunteer spreadsheets throughout the event. 

Chair(s) of Oil Sands Classic U7, U9, U11, U13, U15: Estimated time commitment is 60-100 over the course of the season with the majority of these hours in the week of the event.

*Note: The Chair will assume all responsibilities for the coordination of this tournament including but not limited to the following. 

  • Create a budget and set registration fees in partnership with the Special Events Budget chair.
  • Secure a date and special events permit.
  • Set the tournament rules and review with the Division Director and Ref in Chief to validate and enforce.
  • Advertise tournament if accepting out of town teams on Hockey Alberta website and any relevant social media location.
  • Organize and player bags, medals and or gifts.
  • Organize a tournament headquarters, draws and raffles.
  • Oversee all sponsorship agreements and commitments to the event.

Hockey Development Committee

The Hockey Development Committee has a total of 4 Director roles. This Committee is chaired by: VP Operations, WBHL –  JodyAnn McSkimming.

The available positions for the upcoming season are: Director of WBHL Coach Development, Director of WBHL Player Development, Director of WBHL Goalie Development, Director of WBHL Female Development. 

*Note: The following directors will return to their role this coming season. 

  • Director of WBHL Goalie Development – Shane Chapman

Director of WBHL Coach Development: Estimated time per month –  15-20 hours with the following tasks

  • Work with the Elite Stream Coach Mentor for assistance and mentorship.
  • Work with the Elite Coach Development Director to organize mentoring partnerships.
  • Ensure that all coaches and assistant coaches selected by division directors have appropriate training to ensure approved rosters.
  • Take ownership of the “Coaches Corner” web page, research and add tools and information.
  • Work with Hockey Alberta to organize & coordinate additional training courses.
  • Coordinate learning “clinics” with our development partners and Elite Stream Coach Mentor. 
  • Work with division directors to align all head coach yearly plans.
  • Act as coach mentor/advocate in any coach discipline issues, including completion of discipline requirements. For example; a coach is required to take an additional course, or serve a suspension.
  • Act as a liaison with the Ref in Chief and referee’s association on behalf of coach concerns/ requests. 
  • Provide a report to the board at the end of season.

 

Director of WBHL Player Development: Estimated time: 75 Hours across the season

  • Facilitate, book and assign all ice for all preseason development.
  • Facilitate divisional player development sessions for 2 development weekends throughout the season.
  • Facilitate sign up sessions for additional “pay to use” development and partnerships with vendors.
  • Oversee and enforce “affiliation for development” directive.
  • Act as a parent/player, mentor/advocate in any parent/player discipline issues; including completion of discipline requirements. For example; a parent is required to take an additional course, or serve a suspension.

Director, WBHL Female Development: Estimated time: 60 Hours across the season

  • Facilitate “World Girls Hockey Day”.
  • Work with the VP of Admin & the Development Committee to secure & coordinate female specific development for all females in the WBHL, regardless if they are on female teams.
  • Work with the Coach Development Director to recruit and develop female coaches.
  • Oversee the ‘female specific’ policies and protocol. For example; change rooms. 
  • Work with coaches to ensure inclusiveness of females on mixed teams.
  • Be an advocate for all females registered in FMMHA. 

Director, WBHL Goalie Development: Estimated time per month: 10-15 hours with the following tasks

  • Work with the VP of Admin & the Development Committee to secure & coordinate goalie specific development.
  • Work with the ice allocator to secure specific goalie ice.
  • Facilitate the evaluation process as set out by the VPs of Operations, and tier players based on results of evaluations.
  • Facilitate the “Emergency Goalie” process as set out by Hockey Alberta.
  • Work with Division Directors to place goalies on appropriate teams and advise on multiple goalies i.e. 12 teams and 21 goalies.

Elite Program Committee

The Hockey Development Committee has a total of 3 Director roles. This Committee is chaired by: VP Operations, Elite –  Jody Seymour

The available positions for the upcoming season are: Director of Sponsorship, Director of Elite Financial Reporting,

  • Elite Division Director – Ian Kenny

Elite Division Director: Estimated time per month is 60-80 hours with much more time required during evaluations and season start up, Playdowns and include the following tasks:

  • Accountable for all communications to Elite Division i.e. website, email, and Facebook pages.
  • Accountable for Division Stats/Standings (U11 (Atom Development) U13 (Peewee A and Peewee AA), U15 (Bantam A and AA), U18 (Midget A and AA).
  • Facilitate the evaluation process as set out by the VP Operations, Elite and secure evaluators and evaluation process. 
  • Work with Elite Coach Mentor and VP of Ops – Elite to plan, prepare and facilitate the elite tryout process.
  • Review and assign ice allocations to teams each month and double check that all teams are getting appropriate ice, that games are rotating evenly and working with the ice allocator to correct any issues.
  • Attend appropriate league meetings and liaise with league and tournament directors of outside leagues to help secure tournaments and work out scheduling conflicts. 
  • Facilitate playdowns that are hosted by FMMHA. 
  • Participate in incident investigations when called on by the League Governor.

Director of Sponsorship: Estimated time commitment is 40 – 50 hours per season.

A large part of our operating budget comes from divisions and league sponsors and this program has deteriorated over the years. Our treasurer revamped a sponsorship package last season and we need to begin presenting it to potential sponsors to secure crucial dollars needed to run our teams. This role will work in close relationship with our President and Treasurer to secure sponsor partners. 

Director of Elite Financial Reporting: Estimated time commitment is 40 – 50 hours per season.

This role will create a process and be responsible for providing checks and balances on all elite team budgets, sponsorships & fundraising initiatives. They will ensure all that financial directives are being followed, approve all fundraising and ensure all raffles are put through the Raffle Director. 

Directors will be selected and announced at the June 25th, 2020 AGM.
